When the clinic was founded by Prof. Schmeller in 2002, lipoedema was still largely unknown. The Hanse-Klinik began researching the disease and continuously developing the liposuction method for lipoedema. We conducted several long-term studies and played a key role in developing today's guidelines for the treatment of lipoedema. And we're not done yet. We strive to continually evolve, which is why we meet with colleagues at conferences to exchange experiences, give lectures at continuing education courses, publish scientific articles and support self-help groups in their work. And throughout this time, our primary motivation has always been clear:
For us, the individual is our main concern. And these aren't empty words. This is a promise.
Because with us, things are different. All our patients are accommodated in single rooms with a minibar and private bathroom. We want you to relax and feel comfortable after the operation. We will pamper you with culinary delights that are good for you. You choose all your own meals. We cater to all intolerances and preferences. Because we want you to regain your strength and get back on your feet quickly. We will change your dressings several times so that you don't have to lie in the wet. Each doctor operates only one patient a day. And after your discharge, you will be given an emergency number where you can reach one of our doctors 24/7, even at night. We want you to feel safe.
We don't believe in medical assembly-line work for the purpose of maximizing profits. Because with quantity, quality often suffers. And we set high standards for our work, not only for you, but also for ourselves. We want to focus on you and your lipoedema and give you the attention you deserve. We want you to be able to happily embark on your new life after the operation, because that is the professional fulfillment of our entire team. That's what drives us. Because this surgery is the surgery of a lifetime, one that will change everything for the better. It will reduce the pain to a minimum and make your life more active. This requires focus.
Our care does not begin and end with liposuction. It begins with the initial 90-minute consultation and never really ends. That's why each doctor only sees max. three patients a day: for surgery, consultation, and follow-up. And because our patient follow-up never ends, we spend the rest of our time making phone calls and answering emails. If you want to do it right, assembly line work is a no-go. We're sorry that some patients have waiting time for a surgery appointment. We understand the impatience when the decision to have surgery has finally been made. You are eager to make a fresh start. But please don't rush into anything. Take your time when choosing a clinic. Unfortunately, those that offer quick appointments aren't always the best. Don't believe blindly what you see on Social Media. Be critical. There are only a few true experts in the field of lipoedema. We have made it a principle not to market our patients and their condition on Social Media for advertising purposes. You have a right to privacy. If you don't want to come to us, we'll be happy to give you a reputable recommendation from a competent colleague.
You only have one attempt for a successful surgery. If lymphatic vessels are destroyed by aggressive liposuction, in the worst case scenario you could develop secondary lymphoedema in addition to your lipoedema. If the fatty tissue is over-suctioned, unsightly dents and furrows will develop, and you'll feel more psychologically stressed than before. Lipoedema patients are also entitled to an aesthetic result! Our patients deserve it. As already stated, the individual is our main concern.
